Harry Potter Potion Bottles

Each potion does something different:

• Amortentia – Red (Love Potion)

• Polyjuice – Green (Changing Potion)

• Veritaserum – Pearl (Truth Potion)

• Draught of Living Death – Silver (Sleeping Potion)

• Felix Felicis - Gold (Liquid Luck)

Dim Sum = Yum Yum

I ate Dim Sum in bed and watched a Christmas Story last Sunday. If you love Dim Sum, please tell me your favorites, so I can try them next time. If you've never had Dim Sum before, I hope this will entice you to try it for yourself. 

I didn't know what to order, so I stuck to the basics. Above is shrimp siu mai being dipped in a chili sauce. 

 This is a fried shrimp ball which was both fried, and steamed. They were crispy, and really moist.

One of my favorite dishes was the white radish cake. The texture is creamy, and I was expecting it to be sweet, but the flavors remind me of a turnip casserole that my great-grandmother makes (Yes, she is still alive!).

Char siu bao is a bun filled with bbq pork. They were ok, a little too much bun in my opinion, but not bad.

This plate is filled with shrimp siu mai in the back, white radish cake on the left, and bean curd rolls in the container. The bean curd rolls remind me of egg foo young, which is delicious.

Dum, Dum, Dum! Fried taro root was my absolute favorite dish:) The center was creamy, while the outside was crunchy. It was both sweet, and savory...it was simply delicious!

I'm still craving the fried taro root...YUM! Please tell me your favorites so I can try them too:D

Red Velvet Cake

This week I have 5 finals in 5 days, which hopefully won't be that bad. I'm finished with the red velvet cake tutorial, and it should be up tonight!

Yesterday, I was determined to have Dim Sum, so I did. There is only one traditional Cantonese Dim Sum place locally, and I've never tried it before. As soon as I walked in I wasn't worried. The place was PACKED! I ordered everything to go, and it took about 30 minutes, but it was worth it! I'll have pictures, and details later, but all I can say is mmmmm!

Miniature Bakery Bread

These are pictures from a Bread Loaf tutorial. I used Ecru & Translucent to make the loaf. It took forever to upload for some reason, and it was only about a minute long???

Laputa: Castle In The Sky

Laputa is one of my favorite anime of all time! So I decided to make a pair of Best Friend necklaces inspired by the meal Pazu and Sheeta share:)

Donuts

Boston Cream donuts are my absolute favorite!

When I lived in Chicago, I got donuts from Dunkin Donuts, but here in Louisiana the only place is Krispy Kreme.

Krispy Kreme makes great fresh donuts everyday, but I still love Dunkin Donuts most:)

My Neighbor Totoro Buns

I've been watchin anime non-stop for about three weeks! This is weird, I know, but I got inspired;)

I also bought some bento cookbooks per some WONDERFUL advice from Petitplat AKA Stéphanie Kilgast. I lost all inspiration, and Stéphanie suggested I take a break to renew my mind. She was so right! I was loosing all the joy I once had for sculpting, so I decided to only make foods that make me happy.

Bento makes me happy!

Peanut Butter & Jelly, and FAQ - Polymer Clay

If you are just beginning to work with polymer clay you might have a few questions, I know I did! I am here & happy to answer all that I can. 

So here are the questions that are most frequently asked pertaining to polymer clay:

1. What is polymer clay?

Wikipedia defines polymer clay as a sculpt-able

material based on the polymer polyvinyl chloride 

(PVC). It usually contains no clay minerals, and is 

only called "clay" because its texture and working

 properties resemble those of mineral clay. It is sold

 in craft, hobby, and art stores, and is used by

 artists, and hobbyists.

2. Where can I buy polymer clay?

Polymer clay can be purchased at your local craft

 stores like Joann Fabrics, Michael's, or Hobby 

Lobby. (Joann Fabrics and Hobby Lobby are my

 favorites because they always have great sales!)

3.What is your favorite brand?

My favorite brand of polymer clay is FIMO, hands 

down. I love it because it contains no phthalates. 

Other brands of polymer clay do contain phthalates, 

which can be harmful to your health if you are 

exposed to them over long periods of time. 

My second favorite brand is KatoClay.

4. How long do you bake?

Each piece will require a different baking time 

depending on the size and volume of clay used. You

 must carefully follow the directions on the

 packaging. Each brand of polymer clay clearly lists

 their baking directions on the front, back, or sides of 

the wrapping. It's best to bake for a shorter amount

 of time, rather than a longer because polymer clay

 has the tendency to scorch or burn. 

5. Where can I buy headpins / eyelits?

Both items can be purchased at your local craft 

store, Hobby Lobby, JOann Fabrics, or Michael's.

6. How do I make them shiny?

Once a charm is finished baking, and has cooled I 

use Sculpey Glossy Glaze. You can purchase glaze

 or clear varnish at your local craft store, Hobby

 Lobby, JOann Fabrics, or Michael's.

7. Do I add the headpin before or after baking?

I add headpins before I bake. This is the easiest way 

for me. If you've just made a charm let it cool before

 you insert the headpin. This will ensure that your 

charm does not become disfigured. 

8. Do I add rhinestones before or after baking?

I have added rhinestone to polymer clay charms

 before baking, but they slightly melted in the oven.

 They didn't completely dissolve, but they lost their 

shape and hard edge. After this experience, I bake 

first, then glue the rhinestones on with a heavy duty 

craft glue once they've cooled.
